Nowadays, if you buy a brand new laptop, it is hard to buy an absolute lemon. Unless you scrape the bottom of the barrel at Best Buy and get some god-awful $200 underpowered computer, you should be fine. Hell, even that inexpensive computer may meet some people's needs. However, some of us spend many hours of each day on a computer, so it makes sense to invest in something great. If you are reading BetaNews, I'm sure you fall into that category. If you ask me which computer to buy, I would recommend many (depending on budget), but two stand out among the rest.

This is, as they say, the bottom line. Thankfully the Mac has spent more than a decade at the top of customer satisfaction surveys, which is no mean feat when you consider that they are expensive items that promise much to the prospective buyer. For example a reason to get a Mac, which you said you had none of, (other than artistry)so it would give two pints of view. Whether or not you prefer Apple or Microsoft is a matter of opinion. However, we will give you seven reasons why Apple provides a better computing experience. So, Why Apple is Better than Microsoft? REASON 1: SECURITY This one is quite apparent as there are several more PC-based security attacks than there are Mac-based security. Mar 10, 2020 Windows and Mac have been in active development for decades, and if you’re looking for a computer for work, odds are that you’re going to go for one or the other. Chrome OS, a Linux-based system developed by Google, is more of an anomaly. It’s based on Google’s Chrome browser.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and Apple MacBook Air are great balances between portability, power and cost. Yes, there are more powerful computers, but they are often very heavy and have terrible battery life. Portability cannot be underestimated when it comes to a laptop's value and both of these machines are super thin and light. Last month, my colleague Mihaita pondered the question of which was better based on specs alone. However, as someone who has used both, hands-on, for long periods of time, I am ready to definitively tell you that the Surface Pro 3 is better. Do you agree?

1. Screen Quality

The MacBook Air 13.3-inch (the model I am using for comparison) uses a washed-out non-IPS display that simply looks horrendous by today's standards. It uses a 1,440 by 900 resolution that makes pixels easily visible. Apple usually makes great hardware, but the screen on the Air is simply not up to its normal standards. It also uses a 16:10 aspect ratio that just is not ideal for surfing the web.

The Surface Pro 3 however, offers a gorgeous 2,160 x 1,440 resolution display with vibrant colors that hides pixels from the average eye. It even uses a 3:2 aspect ratio which is better suited for surfing the web. I smile every time I look at the beautiful display on the SP3.

2. Touchscreen/Tablet

Speaking of the screen, the Surface Pro 3 is also a touch-screen hybrid device that also serves as a tablet. This essentially kills two birds with one stone. Apple users will have to buy a MacBook Air and an iPad for the same experience found on SP3. This is a huge inconvenience for travelers that must pack two devices, two chargers and worry about keeping data synced between the two.

Even in laptop mode, the touch screen comes in handy when sitting at a desk or table. Many people find a touchscreen on a laptop to be cumbersome and not ideal. True, you wouldn't want to use the touch screen exclusively at a desk, but having the option is better than not having it, and you'd be surprised at how many times I reach out and touch the SP3 display. The stylus is just icing on the cake.

3. Weight

The Surface Pro 3 without the Touch Keyboard attachment weighs 1.76 pounds. With it, it weighs 2.41 pounds. The 13.3-inch MBA? 2.96 pounds. Pretty much, Apple's machine weighs a half pound more -- that is significant.

But hold on, an iPad Air weighs 1 pound. So, to get a similar experience to the SP3, an Apple user would have to carry a MBA and iPad Air, which would weigh almost 4 pounds. This means your backpack or briefcase will weigh a pound and a half more with Apple's product. The Surface Pro 3 is so light, that I often have to check my backpack to see if I forgot it.

4. More (and Better) Software

I love both OS X and Windows 8.1. However, Windows has the edge, because it has more quality apps and programs. To take it a step further, programs are better too. Don't get me wrong, there is some fine software for Apple's OS, but for someone wanting to get work done, on the go, it is no comparison. Office 2013 is far superior to Office 2011.

But wait you say, that's not fair because Microsoft makes Office, right? OK, fair enough. I encourage you to read this article that lists suggested apps and programs for the Surface Pro 3. You will see many selections, not only from Microsoft, that blows away the offerings on OS X.

5. Price

Some people will say the MacBook Air is less expensive, but that is debatable. A Surface Pro 3 with an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and Type Cover would cost $1430. A 13.3-inch MacBook Air in the same configuration would cost $1300.

So, the MacBook Air is cheaper right? Not so fast. You still do not have a tablet. To get the same features from Apple you also have to buy an iPad Air at $499. This means going Apple would cost an extra $370 and you would be juggling two device -- ouch!

Conclusion

Overall, both the Surface Pro 3 and MacBook Air are great laptops -- the Surface Pro 3 is simply better. For the money, you are getting more features and access to more apps and programs. Even though the MBA overall is solid, the fact that Apple in 2014 can sell its customers a laptop without a touchscreen is beyond me. Not to mention, the display quality is so poor in comparison to the Surface Pro 3, that it is hard to believe they are both being sold in the same year. As someone who has spent a lot of time with the Surface Pro 3, I can assure you it is the real deal.

The MacBook Air had a long run as the king of thin and laptops, but now it must be said -- All hail the new king, Surface Pro 3!

Apple has finally announced the new lighter-than-Air MacBook we were all waiting for. And, as expected, it's spectacular. It's so attractive that I can't possibly imagine why my colleague Brian Fagioli would claim that Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 is better. We are living on the same planet, aren't we?

Brian is terribly wrong, of course. But I'm not surprised, because he is, after all, a Surface Pro 3 user, and has been from the get-go. So it's easy for him to miss all the things that make the new MacBook so much better. He could only come up with six reasons to make his case. I offer nine reasons -- tangible benefits -- that prove otherwise!

1. More Affordable

First off, let's tackle a misconception about the new MacBook. It's not more expensive than Surface Pro 3, as Brian claims. Yes, Microsoft's slate may kick off at $799, but the version that's equivalent to the base new MacBook (the one with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD) costs $1,299. And that's without the must-have Type Cover 2 keyboard, which adds $129.99 to the cost. In total, you're looking at just shy of $1430.

Meanwhile, the base new MacBook, that packs 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB super-fast SSD, costs $1,299. And, of course, there's a keyboard included for the money. The difference can go towards Apple Care or buying a proper tablet, which will work so much better as a tablet than the huge Surface Pro 3.

Don't even get me started on the 512 GB Surface Pro 3. It costs a whopping $1,949. Again, add $129.99 for the keyboard. Sure, it's faster than the new MacBook, but that only goes for $1,599 when matched with a 512 GB SSD. (A faster processor will be available for custom orders, but pricing is yet unknown.)

2. Better Looking

Using Brian's own words, the new MacBook is 'more attractive'. He even admits to falling in love with it!

Surface Pro 3 looks decent, but the new MacBook is dead-gorgeous. It's impossibly thin, and sleek. The keyboard looks great when the lid is raised, the screen is surrounded by a lovely black bezel that makes it look very elegant, the side profiles are clean, and there are no ugly holes for ventilation as the new MacBook is fan-less!

For those who love the iPhone color palette, the new MacBook is available in matching colors. It can be had in Gold, Silver or Space Gray. I'd pick the third option, as it looks very bad ass (yes, I said it). Meanwhile, Surface Pro 3 can only be had in what I like to call boring-businessman-black.

3. More Portable

The new MacBook is also more portable than Surface Pro. It weighs just 2.03 pounds (or 0.92 kg) and comes in at 0.52 inches (or 1.31 cm) at its thickest point. Meanwhile, the latter is heavier (2.41 lbs or roughly 1.1 kg) and thicker (0.55 inches or 1.39 cm) with the keyboard on. The new MacBook is more compact overall, having a smaller footprint (11.05 inches in width and 7.74 inches in depth, compared to 11.5 inches and 7.93 inches, respectively, for Surface Pro 3).

And it's not like the new MacBook sacrifices battery life to fit in such a small body. Apple rates it at up to nine hours of Wi-Fi browsing or 10 hours of video playback. And we know that its ratings are conservative. Surface Pro 3 promises the same endurance for Wi-Fi browsing.

4. Proper Keyboard

A click-on keyboard, as Microsoft forces you to get with Surface Pro 3, is not as good as the keyboard that the new MacBook has. I've used many, and the ones on Macs are the best in the business when it comes to ultraportable devices. It's a joy to type on, with plenty of travel, and works great on your lap too, which is also not something that can be said about Type Cover 2. If you want to type on the go -- and comfortably at the office -- get the new MacBook.

5. Bigger Trackpad

When it comes to trackpads, MacBooks are unmatched among laptops. Apple gets it. Its trackpads are a pleasure to use. Fingers just glide on the glass surface, which is bigger than what most competitors have to offer, including Surface Pro 3 and its Type Cover 2. In fact, Type Cover 2 has a tiny trackpad in comparison, because Microsoft wants you to poke the screen to navigate Windows 8.1. It may have buttons, but the new MacBook trackpad is pressure-sensitive, which makes for more fine-grained controls.

6. New and Shiny

Surface Pro 3 is approaching the end of its life-cycle, while the new MacBook has yet to even hit store shelves. Why is this important? Well, after Surface Pro 3 is replaced (which is any day now), its resale value will drop like crazy, while the new MacBook -- which is cheaper to buy -- has no such successor in sight to affect second-hand prices. It's also a purchase you can enjoy for at least a year until a successor arrives, which isn't the case for Surface Pro 3.

7. Runs Windows and OS X!

One of the reasons why Brian believes Surface Pro 3 is better than the new MacBook is because the former can run Windows. He's being disingenuous, of course, because all Macs have been able to run Windows since Apple switched to Intel processors (hint: it happened last decade). The new MacBook is no exception.

Of course, what Surface Pro 3 can't do is run OS X 10.10 Yosemite natively, which the new MacBook can do without a problem. Even if you don't have a Windows license, you can always get one for about the same money as a Surface Pro 3 keyboard, or even less.

8. Apple Lifestyle Integration

Like my colleague Joe Wilcox explained, if you get the new MacBook you will want or feel like you need to get other Apple products. It ties in well with iPhones and iPads, and Apple services like iTunes. You could start to compose an email on the new MacBook, and move on to your iPhone to finish the draft and send it. Or, you could call your other half from your new MacBook, using your iPhone to intermediate the call. Buy something from iTunes using your iPad and it's available on your new MacBook instantly. No Wi-Fi coverage? No problem. Enable tethering on your iPhone straight from your new MacBook -- yes, that's possible, without having to worry about passwords, or even unlocking the phone!

Is Mac Better Than Microsoft One

There's a sense of integration here that's missing from Surface Pro 3, which offers few reasons why it's better together with other Microsoft products. The experience it offers is disjointed and unpolished, in comparison.

9. It's Focused

Apple designed the new MacBook with the goal of making it the best ultraportable you can buy, and I think it has achieved that. There's a clear focus here on consumers who value portability and battery life, over anything else. Meanwhile, Surface Pro 3 is a device which can't figure out whether it's a good tablet, a laptop or both.

There you go.. Brian is clearly wrong!

Mac os microsoft outlook 100 percent cpu. Mar 19, 2020  Outlook 2016 CPU usage running continuously at around 100% I recently purchased a Office 365 Business plan, and have installed the desktop Office 2016 apps. I am experiencing continuous high CPU utilization, causing the fan in my MacBook to run much of the time. Jul 05, 2018  I would leave Outlook open all day while working and have no issues at all. Ever since 15.22, after about an hour of running it suddenly and drastically starts using more and more of my CPU, and then internal fan of the MacBook sounds like a jet engine. And there is no directory on my computer named Microsoft User Data. Outlook Mac high CPU usage: possible fixes. Ian, sorry to hear you’re having problems with Microsoft Outlook having high CPU usage. I run Outlook for Mac, mainly on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and occasionally on a MacBook Air running Mac OS X Lion, but haven’t had this issue.
