  1. Webcam Settings for Mac OS X and Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000, Manual Exposure Mode, Aperture Priority Mode, Exposure Time, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Auto White Balance Temperature, Manual White Balance, Auto Focus, Manual Focus, Zoom, Pan, Tilt, Power Line Frequency 50Hz, 60Hz and Backlight Compensation.
  2. Mac OS Mojave 10.14.5 the Microsoft Lifecam Studio doesn't work at all in anything, the image is hugely overexposed. I suspect this is Apple's fault, not Microsoft's as all the Apple produced apps have this problem (QuickTime, PhotoBooth, FaceTime) it would be worth using your Apple Support to raise a ticket to see why Mojave breaks the camera.
  3. Oct 07, 2011 Skype does the same thing as camera control (i use osx lion 10.7.4 and a microsoft lifecam studio), but in my case it doesn't matter, if i leave the app running or not! After i started Skype once, the exposure is fine in FaceTime, photo booth etc., also if i quit Skype before or during i use one of the mentioned apps!

Enjoy a superior HD video quality with the LifeCam Studio, which includes a 1080p HD sensor. But great video is about more than HD. Keep your subject crisp with autofocus, from four inches to infinity. Shoot with great accuracy in wide angle with the LifeCam precision glass element lens.

This is a little utility for forcing Microsoft LifeCam webcam settings. It's a command-line tool that reads in settings via XML—admittedly not the most elegant solution, but it worked great for our needs. Hopefully it will help you, too.

I have personally tested it with the following cameras:

Open the App Store. Browse or search for the app that you want to download. Microsoft access on mac. Apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch don't always have a version for Mac.

  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio 1080p HD
  • Microsoft LifeCam Cinema 720p HD

After compiling, to use the tool:

Microsoft Lifecam Mac Settings Free

  1. Create a shortcut to CameraPrefs.exe in your Start Menu's Startup folder.
  2. Open CameraPrefs.xml in Wordpad or another text editor (Notepad has difficulties with the line endings).
  3. Open the Microsoft LifeCam tool from your Start Menu.
  4. Click the little white right arrow/triangle along the right border of the application to expand the settings panel.
  5. Click the gear icon at the top.
  6. Note the name listed in the Select Webcam drop down (e.g. 'Microsoft LifeCam Cinema')
  7. Scroll down and click the Properties… button under Image Adjustments.
  8. Adjust the camera settings to your preference.
  9. Go back to the CameraPrefs.xml document.
  10. Set the name attribute in the tag to the name noted in step 7.
  11. Modify the rest of the properties in the XML to match the values you set in the Properties dialog in the LifeCam tool.

A couple notes:

  • This was last verified as working with Windows 7 and a Microsoft LifeCam Studio camera. Support beyond that cannot be guaranteed.
  • Requires the .NET 3.5 runtime. If you're running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you should be fine.
  • Higher zoom levels don't seem to take effect. For the LifeCam Studio, it seems to ignore values above 60.
  • Setting auto exposure doesn't seem to work by itself. To enable (or disable) this feature, you need to set the trueColorEnabled tag's value to true (on) or false (off).
  • Note I am not a .NET developer, so it may be a bit rough around the edges, but feel free to do with this source what you will.
